Mileage Recalibration

Q. What is mileage correction?
Mileage correction becomes necessary when the electronic mileage display (either LCD or LED) shows a mileage which you know to be incorrect. That's where we can help by electronically correcting the dashboard to show what you verify to us as being the correct mileage.

Q. What is recalibration?
Recalibration becomes necessary when the instrument dials on your dashboard malfunction. For example, the fuel gauge may be showing 1/4 full after you have filled the vehicle up, or it may even stop working altogether. This can also happen to other gauges and dials. That's where we can help by electronically recalibrating the dashboard to either restore faulty gauges and dials.

Q. Why do I need this service?
There are many reasons why you might need this service. For example, your dashboard might develop an electrical fault, be damaged in a collision or even be vandalized, resulting in an incorrect mileage being shown on your odometer or dashboard. You might therefore purchase either a new or second hand dashboard. What happens? If it's a new one it will have 0 miles on it. If it's a second hand one it could have 200,000 miles on it! Naturally you want it to show the correct mileage and that's where we can help, by electronically placing new mileage information into the dashboard.

Q. Is it legal?
It is not illegal to change the mileage on your own personal vehicle for the above reasons. It IS illegal if you knowingly sell the vehicle with mileage either above or below what is has actually covered. We can take no part in such activity.

Q. Why is our service better than many others?
Our service is better because many of our competitors actually remove the memory chip that contains the mileage information as a matter of course, thereby leaving burn marks, solder marks and other unsightly evidence. Our method does not require this (for 99% of cars) and is therefore undetectable. Furthermore, many of our competitors wipe all the information off the memory chip which contains additional details such as chassis numbers and VIN numbers. Our method leaves that information intact! We also guarantee all our work.

Q. How do I get it done?
In most cases we offer a while you wait service so just contact us to book your car in. If you cannot bring the car to us, then it is also possible for you to send the dashboard via mail. Please email us for more information on the postal service.

How much does it cost
The cost varies from model to model depending on the degree of difficulty and age of vehicle. Please email us for a quote.

All types of Dashboards can be recalibrated and reprogrammed. Some vehicles can be reprogrammed by using the vehicles own diagnostic socket, others need the dash removing in order to get to the eeprom.

Why would you want to have yours reprogrammed ? Simply like most thing they can and do go faulty.

These are some of the many vehicle manufactories that we can do :-
Bmw, Audi, Mercedes, Ford, Peugeot, Renault, Vauxhall, Citroen, Chrysler, Fiat, Alfa, VW, Honda, Skoda, Jaguar, Mazda, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Range Rover, Saab, Porsche, Toyota, Citroen.

DASHBOARD REPAIRS

Why would you need this service?

Over the last few years manufacturers have replaced the old style mechanical dashboards for new digital ones. The main reasons for this have been cost and reliability. Nowadays it is faster and cheaper to build an electronic dashboard than the old mechanical style dashboard.

This new technology has it's own problems though. Electrical pulses in the cars electrical system and outside factors can cause the data for the dashboard stored on an EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory) to be corrupted. This could happen for example if the battery was discharged and the car was jump started. The corrupt information in the EEPROM may mean that the mileage display for the dashboard is now incorrect or reading incorrectly.

If your dashboard develops a fault and a secondhand dashboard is purchased from a breakers yard the mileage display for that dash is likely to be different to the original. This would need to be addressed to keep your service/warranty records correct.

That is where we can help. By re programming your cars EEPROM with the correct mileage data. This change to the data stored on the memory device is undetectable and this means that you can receive the full value for your car when sold.

Attention : Adjusting your odometer for personal gain is serious fraud. Do not ask us to undertake this if fraud is your intention.

Swindon Decodes comply fully with all laws regarding odometer correction and although it is not an offence in the UK to change the odometer on your personal vehicle or to correct a false/corrupt reading, it is an offence to sell a vehicle showing a lower or higher reading than true unless the buyer is informed of the true reading. This onus is totally on the owner of the vehicle. If the vehicle's mileage cannot be guaranteed you must display a disclaimer on the odometer the same size or larger than the odometer itself.
